Awka – The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has solicited the cooperation of Medical Laboratory Practitioners in the effort to deliver effective and speedy rescue during crash.
The Sector Commander of the FRSC in Anambra, Mr Sunday Ajayi, made the call at the ongoing National Conference of Medical Laboratory Directors of Nigeria on Friday in Awka.
Ajayi said that the role of the medics were crucial in enhancing speedy rescue which could increase the chances of survival.
He, however, identified speed as the cause of about 60 per cent of road crashes and advised moderation.
He urged motorists and fleet operators to embrace the Speed Limiter device introduced by the FRSC which had passed all through approval processes.
“We are asking for the cooperation of this body because of the important role you play in the society especially on saving lives.
“Speed is a serious risk factor on the road, it accounts for about 60 per cent of crashes on the roads, please help us tell your loved ones that their lives are also important to the FRSC.
“You can also help us conscientise people on the dangers hitting the road not certified as a driver just as an unqualified person trying to deliver medical and laboratory service, quackery kills,” he said.
Ajayi also urged motorcyclists and pedestrians to be careful because of their high exposure to injury in the event of a crash.
On his part, the National President of the association, Dr Gordian Chukwuezike, lauded the FRSC for its efforts at ensuring safer roads.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the national conference, where new national officers would be elected, would end on Saturday. (NAN)
