Damaturu – A cross section of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Yobe say the National Emergency Management Agency’s (NEMA) humanitarian support programmes have facilitated their resettlement.
The IDPs made the commendation on Tuesday in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) while reacting to NEMA’s donation of food items to them.
Musa Manu, an IDP resident at Nayi Nawa in Damaturu, said that the Federal Government, through NEMA and other agencies, had gave displaced persons a new lease of life.
“Frankly speaking, the support by NEMA to IDPs in host communities and those who have relocated back home has impacted on the lives of displaced persons and the resettlement process.”
NAN reports that NEMA recently donated 4,800 units of 25kg bags of rice, millet and maize each, 2,000 bags of beans, 300 jerrycans of vegetable and palm oil each and, 100 bags of salt.
Haruna Mohammed, another IDP, said that the support came in both food and non-food items, thereby contributing to the rehabilitation of IDPs.
Maimuna Kyari, an IDP and mother of four, expressed optimism that she would benefit from the distribution of the materials.
“We have benefitted from various intervention support by NEMA, Yobe government and other humanitarian agencies; I am optimistic I will benefit from this one,” she said.
Meanwhile, the Director-General of NEMA, Alhaji Sani Sidi, said that the food items was to support IDPs who relocated home and those still in the host communities.
Sidi, who was represented by Alhaji Musa Zakari, the Director Training, while presenting the items, commended Yobe Government for maintaining transparency in the distribution process and reaching the targeted beneficiaries.
