Maiduguri – The Borno command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on Sunday, said it had deployed 800 personnel to restore civil authority in areas liberated by the military.
The Commandant of the corps in the state, Mr Ibrahim Abdullahi, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Maiduguri.
Abdullahi said that the personnel were deployed in seven local government areas, and listed them as Baga, Damboa, Munguno, Dikwa, Mafa, Konduga and Nganzai.
He said that the command had earlier deployed 92 officers and men , trained in weapon handling by the 7 Division of the Nigeria Army, to critical areas to strengthen security and restore life.
“You can see our personnel are actively involved in the recent relocation of the IDPs to Konduga, Mafa and Dikwa local government areas.
“The deployment is ongoing as the IDPs agree voluntarily to go back to their ancestral home. Our job is to defend the defenceless.
“More personnel are going to be deployed if the IDPs agreed to go back to their liberated communities,’’ he said.
The commandant appealed to the public in the state to support the government and security agencies in the task of resettling IDPs back to their communities.
