Abuja – Some residents of Nyanya of Federal Capital Territory and Mararaba in Nasarawa State have appealed to the Federal Road Maintenance Agency (FERMA) to be mindful of the traffic pattern in carrying out road repairs.
Some of the residents said in interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Monday that the agency’s approach to road repairs was causing a lot of traffic congestion and inconveniencing residents in the area.
Mr Peter Abraham, a civil servant, suggested that doing the work at night when road users were few would be ideal and ensure a more effective and efficient job.
“I believe that when road rehabilitation is done at night people will not be stranded when going or coming from work.
“The agency knows very well that that axis is very busy and they still came and blocked the road and so created only one lane for people to pass.
“We are already suffering too much on this road; so the agency should not add to our plight,’’ Abraham said.
Mr Hans Yakubu, another resident, advised the agency to always ensure prompt repairs of roads when little cracks were noticed to avoid traffic chaos.
Yakubu said when the roads were handled promptly and on time, the agency would not need to block or cause obstruction.
He said residents from the axis suffered on Thursday because of the road repair at kugbo along the road.
“The axis is just a journey of 45 minutes but it took people three hours to get to their homes.
“The roads should be regularly monitored and maintained frequently to prevent deplorable state of roads,’’ Yakubu said.
Mrs Remi Adeyemi called on the government to speed up the construction of another road to link the suburbs to the city centre and ease traffic on the Abuja-Keffi Road.
Adeyemi said the construction of another road would enable residents in the area to have better options to get to the city.
