There is currently palpable fear in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital over alleged plan by the Boko Haram insurgents to take over the state capital.
The development has forced residents of major military barracks in Maiduguri to evacuate their families to avoid being cut in the crossfire. [eap_ad_1] SaharaReporters reports that the threat letters were dropped at the gates of Giwa and Maimalari military barracks as well as different parts of the city of Maiduguri.
The letter, which was written in the Hausa language, disclosed that Boko Haram kingpin, Abubakar Shekau, planned to personally lead his group to attack Maimalari barracks in no distant time.
“Soldiers are moving their wives and children out because they should not be there if a battle begins”, a security source said.
The extremists had on Thursday killed over 30 people near Kawuri town, some kilometres away from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
