A Lieutenant Commander simply identified as Awollo and Flying Lieutenant CM Okoronwo have been identified as the victims who were shot dead during the invasion of Afaka barracks of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) on Tuesday morning.
This is as Major Christopher Datong, the military officer abducted by the bandits has been found dead.
It was reported that bandits broke into the military institution around 1am on Tuesday.
A source within the barracks said the attackers struck when many were asleep, adding that security was beefed up to prevent the armed men from escaping with their victims.
It was gathered that Major Datong was kidnapped in the incident while an officer simply identified as 2nd Lieutenant Onah sustained gunshot injury and is currently receiving treatment at NDA hospital.
A report by PM News said Major Datong’s lifeless body was discovered Tuesday evening, hours after he was taken captive by the bandits who breached the security of the country’s foremost military university in the small hours of the morning, killing two officers.
The blood-baying bandits had placed a ₦200 million ransom on Major Datong’s head.
Things, however, took another tragic turn as the officer’s body was discovered.
Major Datong was born on January 4, 1978, and he hailed from Pankshin in Plateau State.
The military authorities are yet to react to the very embarrassing incident.
The attack happened less than a week after President Muhammadu Buhari charged security chiefs to double up their efforts because he did not want to leave office as a failure.
