Abuja – President of the Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC), Habu Gumel, said on Thursday that it would ensure that Nigeria’s cultural heritage was promoted at the 2016 Olympics scheduled for Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Gumel, who said this in Abuja, noted that “Nigeria House Project for RIO 2016committee’’, had been commissioned for the task.
He said the committee, inaugurated by Alhassan Yakmut, Director-General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), would manage the events and the Nigeria Hospitality House during the Olympic.
“The responsibility to achieve the objective is vested in the committee members that have just been inaugurated.
“As we progress, we must recall that at the 2012 Olympics in London, the Nigeria hospitality house was a big success.
“Visitors almost hit the one million mark at the end of the games.
“We hope that the hospitality house in Brazil in 2016 will surpass that of 2012 given the advantages of the cultural similarities and social affinity between both countries’’, he said.
Gumel listed some of the events to feature at the hospitality house to includ exhibitions, films, drama, Nigeria cuisines and live music stage by Nigerian top artistes.
