LAGOS – The 2016 Olympic Games holding in Rio, Brazil has received 1.2 million ticket applications from Brazilian residents since sales commenced on March 31.
A report by an online portal, Theinsidegames, said that the most popular sports in terms of ticket requests are volleyball, football, basketball, artistic gymnastics and athletics.
Others include swimming, tennis, beach volleyball, judo and handball, making them the top 10 most sought-after tickets for the Games.
According to the portal, Donovan Ferreti, Rio 2016’s ticketing director, said that sports fans from all over Brazil were purchasing tickets.
“We have received requests for all the sports in the programme and fans from throughout Brazil are buying tickets.

“This shows that these are not just Rio’s Games, but all of Brazil’s.
“Majority of the applications came from Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, Minas Gerais, Amazonas and Bahia,” the portal quoted Ferreti as saying.
Approximately 7.5 million tickets will be put on sale for Rio 2016, with more than half being priced at BRL R$70 (£15/$22/€20) or less. (NAN)
