Abuja – Vendors of various items at the Jabi Lakeside venue of the Beach Volleyball Rio 2016 Olympics Qualifiers in Abuja are optimistic of good sales in spite of spectators’ low turnout.
The vendors told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday they had already started making returns, saying the decision to ply their trade at the venue was productive.
Umar Danjuma, a soft drinks seller, said the harsh weather had enabled him to gain customers very fast.
“The weather is hot, so people always come to buy something, even though I am getting patronage from the spectators only and they are very few here.
“But all the same, before the tournament is over, I am sure I will make my money,’’ Danjuma said.
Ahmed Gambo, a snacks seller, said he had sold more than he had expected at the event.
“The event just started, but I am sure of customers because I have sold a lot today (Thursday).
“Before the tournament comes to an end, I must have made something to take home,’’ he said.
Suleiman Dahiru, another snacks seller, said his wares had all been sold out, adding that he would be there along with his friends and other colleagues to sell on Friday.
“I have finished selling my buns and doughnuts and it is good business for me.
“At least, I am not going around struggling to get customers. I just sit in a place and they come, unlike the way it is outside this place.
“Tomorrow (Friday), I will ask my friends to also bring their wares and sell because business is good here,’’ he said.
NAN correspondents at the competition’s venue also observed that telecommunications company Airtel and cable TV company Startimes are displaying their products at the same venue.
Women teams from 10 counties are currently participating in the event which began on Thursday and will end on Sunday.(NAN)
