Rivers hails Dolphins, Angels for reaching Fed Cup finals

dolphinThe sponsor of two Rivers State-based clubs have expressed delight at the teams’ achievement in this year’s Federation Cup after both reached the male and women finals
The River State Commissioner of Sports, Fred Igwe has described the qualification of Dolphins and Rivers Angels into the Men and Women Federation Cup final as a blessing to the people and government of Rivers State.
Igwe told media in Port Harcourt that the achievement of the two clubs has widely shown the state government’s commitment to steady development of sports in the state.
“We are very happy that both teams qualified to play the finals. It stands as another point of credit to Governor Chibuike Amaechi’s determination and steadfastness to youth and sports development in the state,” Igwe told media.
“We know that it cost a lot financially to the teams but we are determined to stand by the clubs to the place of victory.[eap_ad_2]
“I encourage players of both teams to be focused. They have come this far, victory is sure,” he concluded.
Dolphins defeated Prime FC 1-0 in the semi-final to reach their first Men Federation Cup final in seven years, while Rivers Angels edged out South-South rivals Delta Queens 2-1 and remain in contention to defend the title their won last year.
Dolphins have won the men’s Federation Cup four times while Rivers Angels have nicked the women’s crown three times.
In this year’s Federation Cup finals, the Pride of Rivers will face defending champions Enyimba, while Rivers Angels take on Sunshine Queens of Akure.
The Men’s Federation Cup final takes place by 4pm, after the conclusion of the early kick-off of women’s category by 2pm at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos on Saturday 16 August. (goal.com)[eap_ad_3]
