Port Harcourt – Honour Sirawoo, the Chairman, Local Organising Committee (LOC) for a Full Council Meeting of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) said on Monday that the committee was ready for a successful hosting of the meeting in Port Harcourt.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the full council meeting tagged “Rivers 2015’, would hold from Aug. 25 to Aug. 28.
Sirawoo told newsmen in Port Harcourt that delegates expected were members of National Executive Council, state chairmen and secretaries of all states, including the FCT.
He said the LOC and subcommittees had been working toward ensuring that the meeting was successfully hosted by the state.
Sirawoo commended Gov. Nyesom Wike for accepting to host the meeting as well as the release of funds to that effect.
“By his action, he has once again proven his determination to contribute toward sports development in the state and country at large.
“Recently, the governor hosted an Olympic qualifying match between National U-23 team and their Congoles counterparts, in addition to offsetting the eight months’ salary arrears of the Sharks, Dolphins and Rivers Angels players,” he said.
According to Sirawoo, the governor is making moves to pay the sign-on fees owed the players for several years.

He said the LOC was aware Gov. Wike had planned to host three matches involving the Super Eagles, in order to ensure that Nigeria qualified for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and the World Cup.
Sirawoo said that the NEC of SWAN would honour Wike as `Life Patronship’ of the association for demonstrable love for sports development within a short period of his being in office as executive governor of Rivers.
“It is the belief of SWAN that many more opportunities will be encouraged by the governor, not just in the state but in the country at large, ” he said.
The chairman thanked members of NEC for granting Rivers the hosting right of the full council meeting and for approving to honour the governor as National Patron.
He urged SWAN members in the state to welcome delegates with the traditional Rivers hospitality and make the occasion memorable. (NAN)
