The Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, has outlined key measures aimed at restoring stability and ensuring effective governance in the state.
In a state broadcast on Thursday, Ibas assured residents that he was not in Rivers State as a political actor but as a neutral figure focused on restoring order. He pledged to ensure that governance functions smoothly, safeguard civil liberties, and create a secure environment for all citizens.
To revive economic activities, he promised to foster a stable and business-friendly atmosphere. He also issued a strong warning against violence and sabotage of crude oil infrastructure, urging residents to avoid any return to past hostilities. He reminded them of the severe environmental and economic consequences of damaging oil facilities.
Calling for unity, Ibas emphasized that his mission required the collective support of all stakeholders, regardless of political or ethnic affiliations. While reaffirming his commitment to upholding the rule of law, he made it clear that lawlessness would not be tolerated, and decisive action would be taken against those who disrupt peace in the state.
He also revealed that a State Security Council meeting had been held to outline strategic measures aimed at de-escalating tensions and preventing further conflict.
Ibas expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for entrusting him with the role and acknowledged the National Assembly for approving the emergency declaration. He reassured the people of Rivers State that he would work closely with national leadership to ensure stability and a better future for the state.
