Supporters of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, have taken to the streets to protest Governor Siminialayi Fubara’s decision to move forward with local government elections in Rivers State, despite a Federal High Court ruling that canceled the polls.
According to Politics Nigeria, the protesters included chieftains and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who demanded that Governor Fubara respect the court’s ruling, raising concerns about the fairness of the electoral process.
Similarly, hundreds of All Progressives Congress (APC) members gathered at their party’s secretariat in Port Harcourt, planning their own protest.
Meanwhile, the police announced on Friday that they would not participate in the election.
