ABUJA – The Minister of Labour and Productivity, Mr Emaka Wogu, has expressed the need for national roadmap for technical vocational training in national development.
This is contained in a statement signed by the ministry’s Deputy Director Press, Mr Samuel Olowookere, in Abuja on Wednesday.
According to the statement, Wogu made this known when he inaugurated the Committee on National Policy on Vocational Skills Development to bridge identified gaps in technical vocational training in Nigeria.
Wogu said that the national policy on vocational skills development would go a long way in establishing a roadmap for the nation’s pursuit of skills adequacy on the areas on the country’s technical endeavours.
“There is gap in terms of the absence of a national policy on vocational skills development in Nigeria.
“It is in recognition of this lacuna and its indispensable position in the development vocational and technical education that this committee is being inaugurated. [eap_ad_1] “When developed, the policy will promote practice of curiosity and research in attaining breakthrough in vocational trades and skills with a view to transforming Nigeria into one of the 20 developed countries in the world,’’ the statement quoted Wogu as saying.
He affirmed the inauguration of the committee as another milestone in the ongoing reforms and commitment to strengthen the ministry to achieve its goals in President Jonathan’s transformation agenda for the sector.
The statement said that the 14-man committee would be chaired by Mrs Theresa Braimah, the Director Productivity Measurement and Labour Standard in the Ministry.
In her remark, Braimah assured that the committee would work assiduously to deliver on the mandate within the stipulated time frame. (NAN)
