ABUJA – The Rotary Club, Abuja metropolis, on Friday honoured the late Dr. Amoyo Adadevoh, among others, for paying the ultimate price in a bid to the spread of the Ebola Virus Disease in Nigeria.
Adadevoh was the Consultant at the First Consultants Hospital, Lagos, who diagnosed Liberian-born Patrick Sawyer as the first Ebola Virus Disease case in Nigeria and resisted pressures to release him from the hospital .
The post-humous award Adedavoh was given during the investiture ceremony of Dr Abiodun Olusesi as 5th President of the club in Abuja.
Receiving the award on her behalf , Dr Tony Achie, a Consultant at the hospital, described the late Adadevoh as a “great fellow”.
He commended the club for its thoughtfulness in giving the award, saying that it would encourage other medical practitioners to put in their best while serving the people. [eap_ad_2] In his speech, Olusesi said the club recognised the role Adadevoh played by putting her life on the line to attend to Sawyer.
On his investiture, Olusesi said he was excited to chosen to pilot the affairs of the club.
“Someone needs to drive the affairs of the club and that is why you have entrusted me with this responsibility.
“You are expected to guide and correct me because I do not know it all; there is no success without us all,” he said.
In his speech, the outgoing President, Mr Akin Falodun, said the dream of the founding fathers was to have a club that would be the barometer for others and the nation.
He said that all he achieved during his tenure was now history and that he looked forward to greater achievements under the new President.
“I pray this Pesident achieves more than what all the four presidents before him had achieved”, he said.
The Chairman of the ceremony, Dr Zacchaeus Ajuwon, noted that Rotary Club had established a smooth power transition process devoid of rigging or chaos, which was worthy of emulation.
Ajuwon commended the outgoing President for his leadership style of adopting a village to support all round development, instead of taking up short-term projects.
Other award recipients were Gov. Umaru Al-makura of Nasarawa State, the Minister of Health, Dr. Onyebuchi Chukwu and Gen.Theophilus. Danjuma for their exemplary leadership. (NAN) [eap_ad_3]
