Rotary Club of Abuja Sapphire partners 3 others to donate chairs, tables to LEA Primary School Damangaza

Abuja (Sundiata Post) – As part of activities to commemorate the International Education Week 2022, the Rotary Club of Abuja Sapphire in partnership with Rotary Club of Abuja Utako, Rotary Club of Abuja Downtown and Rotary Club of Abuja Rubbies on Thursday donated chairs and tables to LEA Primary School Damangaza, Abuja.

During the presentation, the President, Rotary Club of Abuja Utako, Rotarian Bruno Kelechi Iwu, who recounted how they arrived at the decision to provide the tables and chairs to the school said that it was initiated by the President, Rotary Club of Abuja Sapphire, Rotarian Mary Ekanem.

According to him, as Rotarians, when we identified that the pupils sit on the floor to learn, “we tasked ourselves and produce these chairs and tables you are seeing here today for the pupils to use while learning. Rotary is all about helping hand, putting smiles on people’s faces and we are just practising it today.

In her remarks, President, Rotary Club of Abuja Sapphire, Rotarian Mary Ekanem, said that Damangana village is their adopted community. She noted that it was in one of the occasions she came to inspect the school on needs assessment that she realised that their was need for chairs and tables for the pupils as some of them were found sitting on the floor while writing. “And since we have a project tagged Basic Education and Literacy we accepted to do something to improve the life of the pupils in LEA Primary School, Damangaza village.

Similarly, the President of Rotary Club of Abuja Rubbies, Rotarian Ndukwe Chinyere Kalu, highlighted that there are seven areas of focus in Rotary and basic education and literacy is part of it and that is the reason why they decided to support the school with tables and chairs.

Finally, Rotarian Chinyere Ndubuisi Nwankwo, who is the president, Rotary club of Abuja Downtown, while speaking with Sindiata Post during the handover of the donated items, said that the best thing they (Rotarians) can do for the pupils is to support them to be educated “and these chairs and tables we are giving them will help them”.

She stressed that if the pupils are learning in a comfortable place, it would help them to comprehend well.
