Abuja – The Nigerian Association of Law Teachers (NALT) on Tuesday said that Rule of Law could work in the country only when there was an improvement in the legal education and law teachers adequately catered for.
The President of the association, Dr Abdulkarim Kana, gave the indication while addressing State House correspondents after meeting with the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, to discuss the way forward for the legal profession.
Kana, who was accompanied by the association’s General Secretary, Dr Elijah Okebukola as well as the association’s Chairman, Board of Trustees, Prof. Ademola Popoola, called for the improvement of the infrastructure and facilities in law faculties.

“The infrastructure in the faculties of law in terms of books, buildings and space should increase.
“The demand for legal education is on the rise and on the increase on a daily basis as against the situation in most of the other countries around the world.
“And it also means that some more efforts should be made and of course this is a government that is laying a lot of emphasis on improving the rule of law.
“And rule of law won’t work unless you have lawyers that are properly and well-trained who will be judges, who will be prosecutors and who will also be teachers of law and who will be lawyers and operate the law.’’[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]

Kana said that the association’s visit was to interact with Osinbajo, a law teacher, and to show gratitude to God for choosing one of its members to serve the country as vice president.
“We are his primary constituency and almost basically, his main constituency and we have come here to congratulate him and to celebrate with him on what Almighty God has done for us as law teachers in Nigeria.
“We have seen him and discussed with him; we have also discussed some of the issues and problems of the Association and the way forward on how to make things forward not only law teachers but legal education in the country.’’
Kana said that the visit was fruitful as Osinbajo gave the assurance that the problems of the association would be well-addressed. (NAN)
