Stanislav Pozdnyakov, the president of the Russian Olympic Committee (ROC), on Saturday said Russia had fulfilled its potential at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and the results shown had fully met the plans.
Russia has won 63 medals at the Tokyo Games so far, comprising 17 gold, 24 silver, and 22 bronze ones.
“Irrespective of how many medals will be received in the end, I think the games have been very successful [for Russia].
“Plans and forecasts that we made have been fully implemented in some sports, and in some cases we did not even expect that so many medals would be received.
Pozdnyakov told a press conference that the team has “fulfilled its potentials at these Olympics.”
The president of the ROC noted that Russian athletes had already shown a better performance at Tokyo 2020 Olympics compared with the Rio de Janeiro 2016 Olympics, when Russia hauled a total of 55 medals.
At the moment, Russia is in fifth place, behind the United Kingdom, Japan, the United States, and China, which is topping the medals table so far.
