The Russian Embassy in Nigeria said it has nothing to do with people in northern Nigeria who were showing Russian flags during protests.
These protesters were seen walking through different areas, carrying Russian flags, shouting slogans, and holding signs.
Some people think Russia is causing trouble in West African countries like Mali, Burkina Faso, and Niger. This makes others worry that foreign countries might be getting involved in local problems.
The Russian Embassy made it clear that Russia doesn’t get involved in other countries’ internal issues, including Nigeria’s. They said that what these protesters did doesn’t represent any official Russian government ideas.
The Embassy strongly stated that the Russian government and its officials are not part of these activities and don’t support them.
They also said that if people choose to wave Russian flags, that’s their own decision. It doesn’t mean the Russian government has anything to do with it.
Russia said it respects Nigeria’s democracy and people’s right to protest peacefully. However, they don’t agree with any actions that cause trouble or violence.
