Moscow – Russian Lawmakers at a meeting with the U.S. delegation would raise the issue of lifting sanctions against members of the Federation Council and the State Duma.
Subsequently, they would discuss the possibility of sending a return delegation to the United States, Pyotr Tolstoy, Deputy Speaker of Russia’s lower house, told Sputnik on Tuesday.
The U.S. congressional delegation would stay in Russia through June 30 to July 5 to hold meetings with Russian officials in St. Petersburg and Moscow.
“The majority of the State Duma and the Federation Council lawmakers are under sanctions.
“In order to send delegations, we need certain agreements it would be nice to achieve them.
“We will see, we will discuss this, and this will be discussed at today’s meeting with the chairman of the State Duma,’’ Tolstoy said while answering whether the State Duma and the Federation Council can send a return delegation to the United States.
“These are all related things.
“Speaking about the inter-parliamentary dialogue, it’s pointless to talk about it if one side is under sanctions,’’ he added while answering a clarifying question whether the lifting of sanctions from the lawmakers or sending a Russian delegation to the United States would be on the agenda.
