ABUJA- An Igbo group, Nzuko Ndigbo, has resolved to honour Rep. Benjamin Kalu. the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives for his role in the establishment of the South East Development Commission (SEDC).
Mr Elias Odoemena, the President of the group, said this during a news conference in Abuja on Wednesday.
He commended Kalu for his role in the passage of the bill establishing the commission.
Odoemena said that Kalu saw through to the passage of the bill because of his undying love for the Southeast,and the drive to develop the region.
He said the Igbo people felt it would be good to honour Kalu and also tell him what his kinsmen wanted from him.
The president recalled that the late Ohanaeze President, Engr. Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu visited Kalu and encouraged him on the importance of the commission to the people of the zone.
Odoemena thanked President Bola Tinubu for assenting to the bill that created commission.
He urged Tinubu to send to the National Assembly, a supplementary budget that would enable the commission to start functioning immediately.
Odoemena said that Kalu had shown that the success of every representative is by facilitating quality projects and developing their areas.
He said with the establishment of the commission, Kalu had made the Igbo people have faith in qualitative representation in Abuja, which he has proudly represented.
“We are honouring Kalu’s vision and development-driven leadership in the House, a representation that aligned with the spirit of self-development that the Igbo people represented.
“We look forward to the smooth takeoff of the South East Development Commission (SEDC),” he said. (NAN)
