There is no truth in the story that Godwin Emefiele, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), has been relieved of his position, as previously reported by the media.

Multiple sources, both at the apex bank and the presidency, were quoted as debunking the news, as the nation’s number one banker, is actually said to be busy in his office, performing his official functions.

The Nation, quoting the Director of Corporate Communications at the CBN, the official spokesman of the bank, Isaac Okoroafor, as dismissing the story, stating that his boss was in his office, doing his job.

“The governor is in his office working. I don’t know what you’re talking about,” he was quoted as saying, while another source in the bank, reportedly said: “There is nothing like that, the governor is here, his tenure expires in June.

“In fact he has functions to attend to tomorrow, one of which is to meet with stakeholders in the cotton value chain on Tuesday March 5, 2019.”

TheCable also quoted presidential sources as saying “The president does not have the power to sack the CBN governor without the approval of the national assembly. The reports are fake.”
