LAGOS – A 21-year-old salesman, Goodluck Edet, was on Tuesday brought before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over an alleged threat to his employer’s life.
Edet, who lives in Mile 12, Ketu, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of threatening violence and stealing.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Babaji Ishiaku, told the court that Edet committed the offences on Sept. 1, at 10.35a.m. at No. 46, Obalende Road, South West Ikoyi, Lagos.
He said that the accused stole a Fireman Generator worth N50,000, belonging to his employer, one Mr Edet Okon, and also threatened his life with the words: “I am going to show you.” [eap_ad_1] Ishiaku said that Edet threatened Okon after he refused to pay his salary for the month of August because the stolen generator was put in his care.
He said that when the accused was confronted by his employer about the missing generator, he could not give a satisfactory explanation.
According to the prosecution, the offence violated Section 56(1)(a) and 285(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 56(1) prescribes a year imprisonment for anyone found guilty of threatening violence.
NAN also reports that Okon was in court as a witness for the prosecution.
The Magistrate, Mrs Linda Balogun, granted the salesman bail in the sum of N20,000 with a surety in like sum, and adjourned the case to Sept. 23 for mention. (NAN)
