Lagos – A salesman, Joseph Omoniyi, on Thursday appeared before a Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing his employer’s N650,000.
Omoniyi, 36, whose address was not given, is facing a charge of stealing, to which he pleaded not guilty.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Rukayat Ogundeji, told the court that the defendant committed the offence from October to December, 2018 at Foyaf Investment Company Ltd. in Lagos.
Ogundeji said that the defendant sold some items worth N650, 000 and fraudulently converted the money to his personal use.
The offence contravenes Section 280 (1) (a) and (b) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs T.O. Abayomi, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N250, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
Abayomi ordered that the sureties must be employed in reputable companies and should show evidence of tax payments to the Lagos State Government.
The case was adjourned until May 28 for trial.
