Lagos – A 33-year-old sales representative, Orlando Romanus, was on Monday, docked before a Surulere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing N1.6 million, property of his employer, Vine Morris Links Ltd.
According to the prosecutor, Insp. Gabriel Ekundayo, the accused committed the offence at No. 52 Falolu Str., Surulere, Lagos sometime in June 2015.
The prosecutor said the accused, who was an employer of Vine Morris Links Ltd, diverted N1.6 million proceeds from sales he made for the company to his own personal use.
He said that in the process of looking for the accused, “he called the Marketing Manager of the company, Mrs Ogundima Chioma, on the phone on Aug. 15 and told her he was kidnapped.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
“That he has used the money to bail himself, hence the reason why he could not come to the office or provide the money.’’
The prosecutor noted that the offence contravened Sections 278(1) 285(7) and 334(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to a three-count charge bordering on stealing and false information.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs M.I. Dan-Oni, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500, 000.00, with two sureties in like sum.
She directed that one of the sureties must reside in Lagos and be resident in his own house.
The Magistrate adjourned the case till Dec. 21, for mention. (NAN)
