ABUJA – Vice-President Namadi Sambo has offered prayers for the nation’s peace, progress and development at the Al-Masjid Al-Haram Mosque in Meccah as he performed this year’s Lesser Hajj (Umrah).
This information is contained in a statement issued by Malam Umar Sani, his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, in Abuja on Tuesday.
It stated that Sambo offered the prayer as he joined millions of Muslim faithful to perform the lesser pilgrimage in the Holy Month of Ramadan.
The statement maintained that the vice-president offered the prayer after the completion of Tawwaf at the Holy Ka’abah (House of the Lord).
“We prayed for our nation’s peace, progress and development.[eap_ad_2]
“We pray to Almighty Allah to remove all the evil that are within us so that the Transformation Agenda of Mr President will succeed,’’ it quoted Sambo as saying after the completion of the Tawwaf.
It said amongst those that performed the pilgrimage with the vice-president was Nigeria’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Abubakar Bunu and the PDP National Organising Secretary, Alhaji Abubakar Mustapha.
The Umrah (Lesser Pilgrimage) is performed by Muslims from all over the world that converged at Meccah to observe the ritual, which could be undertaken at any time of the year but mostly observed in the holy month of Ramadan.
The pilgrims perform a series of worship symbolising the lives of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his second wife Hajara.
The pilgrims pray for mercy and forgiveness from God and for Him to grant them their earthly and heavenly wishes. (NAN)[eap_ad_3]
