IKOLE (Ekiti) – Mr Tunde Famuyisan, Chief Sanitary Officer in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti, has warned butchers in the council not to slaughter animals in unhygienic environment.
Famuyisan told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Ikole that any butcher that failed to heed the warning would be sanctioned.
He admonished butchers against the use of unhygienic means to transport meat in the area.
According to him, the council’s Sanitary Inspection Department is making efforts to improve hygiene in all the abattoirs in the local government area.
“We have been going round regularly on inspection to the abattoirs in order to ensure that butchers comply with sanitary regulations.

“We do all these to avoid having filthy abattoirs in the local government area,’’ he said, stressing that no erring butcher would escape sanction when caught.
Famuyisan appealed to people that patronise abattoirs or meat sheds in the area to be vigilant and report any case of unhealthy environment or bad meat being sold to the general public.
He assured residents that the council would not allow contaminated or unhygienic meat to be sold in the area. (NAN)
