Abuja – A Wuse Zone 2 Senior Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced a 28-year-old scavenger, Yakubu Ahmed, to two months imprisonment for house breaking and theft.
Ahmed, who resides at Tudunwada village on Airport Road, was arraigned on a two-count charge of house breaking and theft.
The Magistrate, Shuaibu Usman, who sentenced the convict after he pleaded guilty, gave him an option to pay a fine of N10, 000.
Usman said that the punishment would have been more severe but for the plea of guilty, which saved the court the pains of prolonged prosecution.
He warned the convict against taking to crimes again after his sentence.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”70560″]
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Abba Sanni, told the court that Femi Solomon of Tudunwada village, reported the matter at the Lugbe Police Station on Feb. 3.
Sanni told the court that the convict broke into the complainant’s apartment about 5:30 a.m. and stole his laptop and one samsung galaxy 4 tablet.
He said that when the complainant came back from the journey and discovered that his apartment was burgled, he raised an alarm.
The prosecutor said that during police investigation and interrogation, the convict admitted committing the offence.
“When the convict was arraigned, he admitted the offence,’’ he said.
He said the offences contravened Sections 347 and 288 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
