ILORIN – Worried by the wave of ugly incidents which have rocked Nigeria in recent times, most notably the abduction of 234 girls from their school in Chibok, Borno State, Mrs Omolewa Ahmed, wife of the Governor of Kwara State will organize a session of prayers on Saturday, May 17, at the Government House, Ilorin.
A statement issued by Lanre Ahmed, special assistant, administration and strategy and made available to Sundiata POST, said the governor’s wife implored mothers in the state to fast for Nigeria on that day.
“Muslim mothers will gather at 10am to call for divine intervention for the release of the abducted girls and for peace to reign in our country.
“Their Christian counterparts will converge at the same venue, 4pm, same day to call on God with one voice to ensure the safe liberation of the abducted girls,” the statement said.
While recognising the outpouring of solidarity by several women and groups through peaceful demonstrations, the statement said Mrs Ahmed called on all Nigerians irrespective of religious beliefs to pray for peace, stability and prosperity of the country.
“Her Excellency’s heart goes out to all parents, family, relations and associates of all the people who have lost their lives since these spate of incidents began, particularly the parents of the recently abducted children.
It is the prayer of Her Excellency that Almighty God will restore peace to our dear fatherland.
Mrs Ahmed hereby calls on the women of Kwara to join her at the prayer sessions on that date so as to beseech God Almighty to heal our nation”, the statement noted.
