He said that the development would remove the teaching of science subjects and mathematics from their abstract forms.
The mandate of this equipment centre, which was started in 1971, was to help in developing the training and teaching of science.
“And among the activities, to brace up the mandate, is training teachers in the use of science equipment.
“And you can’t teach science effectively without practical and science equipment. That is what we are doing.
“Our work here is to help to develop science through making available science equipment.
“That’s, we re-skilled and retrain teachers in the use of science equipment.’’
The director said that the centre also trained teachers on how to use local equipment to teach mathematics and science subjects.
According to him, the training exposes the teachers to the best way to use local material to fabricate equipment to teach practical.
Ifedigbo appealed to the teachers to participate in the annual training of science and mathematics teachers on the uses of equipment.
NAN reports that FSEC, on Jan. 12, trained of no fewer than 500 teachers from federal and state owned schools in the South-West zone. (NAN)
