The Special Female Squad of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has sought the support of traditional rulers in combatting the security challenges facing the country, including the kidnapping of scholars.
The appeal is contained in a statement issued by NSCDC Public Relations Officer, Mr Olusola Odumosu, on Saturday in Abuja.According to the statement, NSCDC Head of Female Squad in Oyo State, Chief Superintendent Oluwakemi Imonikhe, made the appeal when she paid a courtesy visit to the Alafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi.Imonikhe said that the visit was intended to show the total readiness of the squad to fight the scourge of insecurity in the state.She said that the corps needed the support of all traditional rulers in the country for the social re-engineering and sensitisation of the populace on security consciousness.The statement said that the squad would, among other things, strive to ensure the efficient implementation of the corps’ “Safe School Initiative“.Imonikhe reiterated that the NSCDC under the leadership of the Commandant-General, Ahmed Audi, would continue to work closely with state governments by providing credible intelligence to nip crimes in the bud.While appreciating the female squad, the Alaafin requested their full participation in security operations in the state.He appealed to the commandant-general to domicile the School Safety Initiative Programme in Oyo State.The oba said this would help to ward off anxiety and fear of attacks among scholars and their teachers.The traditional ruler assured the corps of his full support for the Safe School Initiative and called on the people of the state to give their maximum support to the corps.
