Commander Bibi Oduku, the Commandant General of Riverine Security (Coast Guard of the Federation), has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider suspending the Governor of Rivers State due to escalating threats in the Niger Delta.
He warned that these security risks could severely impact Nigeria’s economy.
Commander Oduku revealed that militant groups are planning attacks on federal government properties in several Niger Delta states. He also cautioned that criminals might take advantage of the unrest to engage in illegal activities, potentially endangering innocent civilians and military personnel on peacekeeping duties.
Brigadier General Paul T. Boroh (Retd.), a former Presidential Amnesty Coordinator, advised youths in the region not to act out of anger. He stressed that President Tinubu does not support violence and urged them to avoid actions that could lead to destruction and loss of lives.
Commander Oduku reassured the public that Riverine Security Officers remain alert and are prepared to stop unauthorized groups from carrying out unlawful activities. He added that they would collaborate with the Nigerian Military and other security agencies to track down those responsible for attacks on federal government assets.
Captains Eric Foutoru and ThankGod Oprom, who oversee security in Rivers State waterways and Delta State, respectively, pledged their commitment to assisting the military in restoring stability in the region.
Condemning the destruction of oil pipelines in Rivers State and Akwa Ibom, Commander Oduku vowed to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice. He urged residents of Rivers State and the Niger Delta to maintain peace and allow the legal process to take its course.
