UNITED NATIONS -The attacked killed and injured many Somalis, including government officials, Members of Parliament and hotel workers.
The condemnation is contained in a statement issued by the 15-member Council on in New York.
The Council expressed deep sympathy and condolences to the government and people of Somali as well as victims’ families, many of whom were gathered for Friday prayers.
The Council also wished a speedy recovery to the injured.
It paid tribute to the courage exhibited by the Somali National Security Forces in swiftly responding to the attack.
The Council reaffirmed that terrorism in all its forms and manifestations constitutes one of the most serious threats to international peace and security.
It said that acts of terrorism were criminal and unjustifiable regardless of their motivation, wherever and whenever and by whosoever committed.
The Council reiterated its determination to combat all forms of terrorism, in accordance with its responsibilities under the Charter of the United Nations.
It underlined the need to bring perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of acts of terrorism to justice.
The Council urged all States, in accordance with their obligations under international law, and relevant Security Council resolutions, to cooperate actively with the Somali authorities in combating terrorism.
It reminded States of the need to ensure that measures taken to combat terrorism complied with their obligations under international law, international human rights law, international humanitarian law and refugee law.
The Council reiterated its support to all actors working towards more peace and stability in Somalia, including the United Nations Assistance Mission in Somalia and the African Union Mission in Somalia. (NAN)
