LAGOS – Some security experts in Lagos on Monday urged the Federal Government to equip its security agencies with facilities to better manage crime and disasters.
Speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) they noted that security agencies should be provided [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”8″]
with everything needed to make the discharge of their duties more effective.
Mr Charles Sullivan, Head, Media Operations at Bells Security, said the issue of security shouldn’t be underestimated in anyway and urged the government to prioritise it.
“The issue of security should be prioritised and this is why I am urging government at all levels to [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]provide security agencies with all they need to work efficiently,’’ he said.
Mr Segun Lawal, a consultant, said that though everything that made a country function must be taken [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]seriously, the security system should be of international standard.
“We all know that crime and disasters have no regard for any country. The same crime or disaster that occurs in a developed country can hit an underdeveloped one.
“How we manage it is what makes us different and this is why we should always be prepared by [pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]providing ourselves with a world class security system,
“One that can withstand any form of aggression whether it is of internal or external nature,’’ he said.
Mr David Bamidele, also a consultant, said that the security system of a country showed how strong it is and how it could repel external aggression.
“The security agency of a country should not be lacking in anything because it is the backbone of the country which helps to repel external aggression,’’ he said.
Another, Mr George Ajayi, however, noted that equipping security agencies goes beyond providing them with funds and gadgets to make their work easier.
He said the best hands should be employed in all security agencies and that the best hands would complement the facilities provided for effective performance.
“The best hands should be employed to complement the facilities which have been provided for effective performance,’’ he said.
Ajayi added that putting security on the priority list of government was the first step to putting priority to human lives which has no duplicate. (NAN)
