Ikeja – A 26-year-old security guard, Daniel Akinlalure, who allegedly stole his employer’s ATM card to withdraw N100,000 from his bank account appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
The accused, who resides in Ajanaku Street in Ikeja, is being charged for stealing but pleaded innocence to the offence.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Nomayo Kenrich, told the court that the accused stole an ATM card belonging to one Mr Victor Adepoju and used it to withdraw N100,000 from Adepoju’s account.
Kenrich told the court that the accused committed the offence on Nov. 26 about 9.40 a.m. at No. 23, Church St., Salvation Road, Opebi, Lagos State.
He said the accused entered into the complainant’s house with the spare key on him to steal the complainant’s ATM card and used it to withdraw N100,000 from the complainant’s account.
“The accused made the withdrawal from the UBA and Access Bank’s ATM machines.
“The complainant suspected the accused to have carried out the heinous act and alerted the police,” he said.
The magistrate, Mrs T. A. Ojo, admitted the accused to a bail of N100, 000 with two responsible sureties in like sum.
Ojo said the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years’ tax payment to the Lagos State Government and the prosecutor must verify that the sureties’ addresses are genuine.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015, (Revised).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Section stipulates seven years’ imprisonment for offenders.
The magistrate adjourned the case until Jan. 29 for mention.
