Security Guard, 29, In Court For Allegedly Breaking Into Shop, Stealing Wears

Ikeja, – A 29-year-old security guard, Bala Umar, on Monday, appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for allegedly breaking into a shop and stealing dresses and shoes worth over N1 million.

The defendant, who resides at 84, Ajayi Road, Oke Ira, Ogba, Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy, burglary, stealing and unlawful invasion.

The Prosecutor, Insp Segun Oke, told the court that the offences were committed on Feb. 14 at 1, Morenikeji St., Oke-Ira, Ogba, Lagos.

Oke said that the complainant, Mrs Elizabeth Fagbemi, got to her shop in the morning and discovered that the shop had been burgled through the window and that her items were missing.

The prosecutor said that 10 pieces of bags, 20 pairs of shoes, 55 pairs of Jeans trousers and 72 pieces of female dresses, all valued at N1, 026,000, were stolen from the shop.

Oke said that the defendant, a security guard at the building complex, could not give a satisfactory account of how the shop was burgled.

The offences, according to him, contravene Sections 287, 307, 308 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges preferred against him.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.C. Ayinde, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N400,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Ayinde, thereafter, adjourned the case till April 21 for mention. (NAN)
