Security Guard Docked For Allegedly Stealing Electrical Appliances

Abuja, – A security guard, Amos Mathew, was on Tuesday docked in a Grade I Area Court, Karu, Abuja, for allegedly stealing electrical appliances parts worth N950,000.

The police charged Mathew, 27, who lives in Karu with criminal breach of trust and theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, Ade Adeyanju, told the court that the defendant sometime in October 2022, stole the items while working as a security guard

He said that the defendant could not give a satisfactory account of all the allegations brought against him during police investigation.

According to the prosecution counsel, the offence contravenes the provisions of sections 314 and 289 of the Penal Code.

Mathew, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Judge, Malam Umar Mayana, granted him bail in the sum of N1.1million with one surety, who must live within court’s jurisdiction.

Mayana also ordered the surety to submit verifiable means of identification and residential address with the court and police personnel.

The judge adjourned the case until Feb. 14, for further hearing. (NAN)
