Abuja – The police on Thursday arraigned a 25-year-old security guard, Abu Suleiman, in a Karu Grade 1 Area Court, Abuja, for alleged cheating.
The prosecutor, Sgt. Omatiga Gabriel, told the court that one Sunday Emmauel of Kurudu, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on May 6.
Gabriel told the court that on May 3, the complainant met the accused at Karu, and complained to him about his stolen motorcycle.
He said that the accused claimed that he knew the person who stole the complainant’s motorcycle and so collected money from him to help him apprehend the thief.
The prosecutor alleged that the accused collected N3, 900 from the complainant without giving him any useful information.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 312 of the Penal Code. The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the one-count-charge levelled against him.
The Judge, Alhaji Hassan Ishaq, granted the accused bail in the sum of N10, 000 with a surety that must reside within the court’s jurisdiction.
Ishaq adjourned the case till June 29 for further hearing. (NAN)
