YOLA- Security has been beefed up at the residence of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in Yola, Adamawa State, after the police foiled an attack by suspected Boko Haram members.
Reports claimed that the four suspects were arrested on Sunday and are currently being interrogated by the police.
Residents of the Dougirei area, where Atiku’s residence is located, said they were not aware of the planned attack until the news broke several hours later, Daily Trust reports.
Sani Umar, a resident of Dougirei, said his wife was initially panicked upon hearing the news. However, a comforting neighbour assured her that Boko Haram had already been significantly weakened and could no longer launch attacks, not even in Yola, let alone in Maiduguri.
He further said there were no sounds of gunshots or any alarming incidents in the vicinity. According to him, the news about the event only surfaced several hours after its occurrence.
A senior security source said one of the suspects behaved in a “typical Boko Haram manner” during interrogation.
“He was bold, fearless and hardened,” the source said.
