Minna – Residents of Minna, the Niger State capital, on Friday lauded the police over current crackdown on hoodlums, saying it will restore sanity in the city.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state Police Command has introduced 24-hour patrol to tackle criminal activities in the state.
One of the residents, Malam Abubakar Kabiru said the effort would enhance peace in the metropolis.
“For about three days there is no report of bag snatching along Saukahuta which hitherto was a daily occurrence.
“Our wives were threatened by these miscreants on daily basis but thanks to the police, the introduction of the 24-hour patrol seems to be paying off. ”
Lydia Benjamin who resides along Murtala Mohammed way, said there has been renewed vigour by the police to take on criminals in the state.
“Its a positive attitude and they should continue. Few days back there was an attack in our area and the police commissioner was there personally,” she said
She advised the police to provide vital telephone numbers including those of divisional police officers, so that residents could notify them in case of security emergencies for prompt response.
Malam Bashir Ibrahim of Bosso area told NAN that the patrols would help fight criminals who have turned primary schools and other public buildings into Indian hemp joints and planning ground for their criminality.
“I strongly suggest that the command deploy security personnel to all public buildings especially primary and secondary schools in the metropolis,” he said.
Another resident, Mr Clement Joseph, advised the command to introduce foot patrols especially at night in areas where hoodlums operate.
“We should also volunteer vital information about movement of criminals to enable the command come out with more security measures to contain the criminals,” he said.
Mr Ahmed Musa, a residents of Donga, advised the state government to assist the police with more patrol vehicles and motorcycles for effective response to any security breach.
