KATSINA – Security arrangements were tight for the Local Government elections in Katsina State on Saturday, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.
Our Correspondents visited polling centres in Katsina, Batagarawa, Kurfi, Rimi, Charanchi, Mashi, Kankia and Bindawa local government areas where they saw many security operatives.
It was also gathered that soldiers and policemen were manning check points on the boarders between the local government areas, while others were at the polling units.
At the Shema ward, where Gov. Ibrahim Shema voted, security was also tight with armed policemen, men of the NSCDC and FRSC standing guard..
In all the areas visited, accreditation commenced as early as 8 a.m. with voters coming out to exercise their franchise. [eap_ad_1] The accreditation ended at about 10 a.m. in most of the areas with voting commencing almost immediately.
NAN reports that there was mass turnout of voters in almost all the areas visited, especially in Dutsin-ma town where women turned out enmasse.
In Katsina, the state capital, large turnout of people was recorded in most of the polling centres visited with high number of women coming out to vote.
NAN also reports that in virtually all the centres visited; only PDP polling agents were visible.
The representatives of the other political parties, namely, APGA, ACPN, MEGA Party, SDP and PPA were conspicuously absent. (NAN)
