Enugu – Some youth groups in Enugu State have commended Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for his forest guard initiative in tackling security challenges and ensuring enduring peace in the state.
The youth groups which comprised of Ohanaeze Youths, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) and National Association of Nigeria Students (NANS) gave the commendation in a joint press briefing held in Enugu on Thursday.
The Chairman of NYCN, Enugu State Chapter, Mr Paschal Ugwu, who spoke on behalf of other youth leaders, said approval of the recruitment of 1,700 forest guards by the governor to combat the menace of hoodlums was laudable.
Ugwu assured that the youth in the state would continue to work with the state government to ensure security of lives and properties.
He pleaded that the governor should fulfill his pledge of running a youth inclusive government by appointing young people into key positions in his government.
Ugwu said the youth played key role in the 2019 election as INEC report revealed that out of 1,429,221 registered voters in the state, persons in the age bracket of 18 to 35 years collected 980,870 Permanent Voters Cards.
“His Excellency should look at 40 per cent appointment of the youth in his government.
“We wish to thank His Excellency for his reassurance to run a youth inclusive government,” he said.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that other youth groups that participated in the joint briefing included; Nsukka Youths General Assembly (NYGA), Nkanu Youths Council (NYC), Enugu West Youth General Assembly and Nigeria Youth Assembly of Nigeria (NYAN).
