Milan coach Clarence Seedorf was well-pleased with his charges after their 2-1 win over Genoa on Monday night as the Italian giants look to claw their way back up the Serie A standings.
The struggling Rossoneri have had a disastrous campaign and currently lie 11th in Serie A, a mammoth 39 points behind leaders Juventus.
Yet Monday night’s victory was Milan’s third win in a row – the first time they have managed three consecutive wins this season – and Seedorf believes his side are finally on the right track.
“Time is something that I’ve been asking for from the start and now the results are proving us right,” said the Milan coach after the game.
“We’re on the right road and the players are following. I’m happy to see the improvements and the increase in self-confidence. I’m happy for the players as the results are thanks to them.”
One of those players is January signing Keisuke Honda, who scored the second goal in the 2-1 victory – his first League goal for the club.
“Honda is growing by the game,” said his Dutch manager. “It was tough today as the opponent was aggressive but he played very well and the goal came at the right moment.
“He was our extra man tonight, all credit to him.”
Veteran defender Daniele Bonera is happy with his side’s recent form of late, and hopes they will still be able to qualify for next year’s Europa League.
“I’m very happy,” said the 32-year-old. “After two good results we were able to do well here as well. Now we have two home games and we have to make the most of the situation.
“We’ve always reacted to difficulty. Things that have been written have stung our pride and we reacted well.
“We need more points to get into Europe and we can get them with the next two home matches. We have to give everything we have.” (kickoffnigeria)
