CALABAR – The reduction in the price of petrol should be extended to kerosene nationwide, Sen. Bassey Out has suggested.
The call is contained in a statement he gave to journalists in Calabar on Tuesday.[pro_ad_display_adzone id=”10″]
Otu, (LP-Cross River South), noted that kerosene currently sells for N130 per litre outside NNPC filling stations which sells at N50 per litre.
He said in the statement that government’s reduction of the price of petrol by N10 was most timely and should be extended to other petroleum products.
The statement said the move would cushion the harsh economic effects inflicted on the people by the global dwindling price of crude oil.
It added that the gesture would also encourage the protection of the eco-system from further depletion.
“It will also improve the living standards of a majority of Nigerians who depend on kerosene and petrol as sources of energy.
“The reduction in price of kerosene will protect the eco-system from further depletion of our forests through firewood and conserve nature from the climate change with resultant hazards to health.
It also called on the federal government to rehabilitate its four refineries and encourage those who got licenses to establish private refineries to inaugurate them.
The statement urged the Jonathan administration to encourage the establishment of more private refineries in Nigeria. (NAN)
