The Nigerian Senate has set a tentative date of January 31 for the passage of the 2025 appropriation bill.
Senator Solomon Adeola, Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriations, disclosed this during a meeting with chairpersons of the Senate’s standing committees.
President Bola Tinubu presented the proposed N49.7 trillion budget to the National Assembly on December 18, 2024. The bill has already passed its second reading, and budget defense by ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, December 7.
Senator Adeola explained that reports from the budget defense sessions would be submitted between January 15 and 18. Following this, the appropriations committee will compile and finalize the budget report, aiming to present it to the Senate by January 31.
“The January 31 date is provisional, serving as a guideline for our legislative activities,” Adeola clarified, emphasizing that the timeline could be adjusted as needed.
This timeline reflects the Senate’s commitment to ensuring timely approval of the budget to enable smooth implementation of the government’s 2025 fiscal plans.
