Kano- Senate Chief Whip, Sen. Bello Gwarzo, has urged Christians to use the Christmas period to pray for peace in the country.
He made the call in a statement signed by Mr Ibrahim Garba, his Media Assistant, made available to newsmen in Kano on Thursday.
He said no meaningful development could be achieved in an atmosphere of rancour, adding that “both peace and love are needed at this trying moment in the country.’’
Gwarzo, who is representing Kano North Senatorial district, also urged Nigerians to always be security conscious.
The lawmaker called on Nigerians to pray for successful conduct of the nation’s 2015 general elections.
He said “2015 is a year of elections in Nigerian and Nigerians must rise above ethnicity, religious preference and clannish inclinations used by unpatriotic persons to exploit and divide the masses.’’
Meanwhile, the Igbo community in Kano, the Onyendu Ndigbo of Kano, has urged Christians to use the occasions of the Christmas and New Year to intensify prayers for sustainable peace in the country.
The call is contained in a statement signed by the leader of the Community, Chief John Nnaji, made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano on Thursday.
He added that “the security challenges are a test of time which needed the coming together of every Nigerian to protect the nation’s corporate entity.
“The creation of Nigeria is divine; hence the need for every religious group to intensify prayers for the nation to come out of this challenging moment.’’
According to him, the call is necessary in view of the current security challenges facing the country.
While rejoicing with Christians over the festive period, the community leader appealed to all Nigerians to always pray for peaceful conduct of the 2015 general elections. (NAN)
