Abuja – The Senate Committee on Environment has commended the National Biosafety Management Agency (NBMA) over its modern state-of-the-art genetic modification detection and analysis laboratory.
The committee gave the commendation while inspecting the agency’s laboratory during an oversight visit to the agency in Abuja on Thursday.
The Chairman of the committee, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu said the agency had achieved a lot in terms of acquisition of state- of-the-art equipment and personnel.
Tinubu, who said the committee came to ascertain the level of performance for the years 2017 and 2018, also commended the Director General, Dr Rufus Ebegba for the achievement.
Earlier, Ebegba presented the agency’s 2017 and 2018 budget performance to the committee.
He noted that the essence of laboratory was to ensure that no genetically modified organism was allowed into the country without proper approval.
The eight-man committee pledged to relay the progress and needs of the agency back to the National Assembly for necessary action.
