The Senate confirmed four individuals nominated by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to serve as Managing Director and Executive Directors of the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) on Tuesday.
Among the confirmed nominees is Mr. Gbenga Alade, former Managing Director of Guarantee Trust Bank (UK), who assumes the role of Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer. The executive directors appointed are Mr. Adeshola Lamidi, Mr. Lucky Adaghe, and Dr. Aminu Mukhtar Dan’amu.
According to a statement by Jude Nwauzor, Head of the Corporate Communications Department of AMCON, the final confirmation during Tuesday’s plenary followed a thorough screening process conducted by the Senate Committee on Banking, Insurance, and other Financial Institutions, chaired by Senator Tokunbo Abiru.
Senator Abiru affirmed that the nominees underwent rigorous scrutiny in line with parliamentary regulations and were deemed competent to serve as directors of AMCON. He emphasized their extensive experience in the field and their adherence to the Code of Conduct rules, noting that no objections were raised against their nominations.
During the plenary, presided over by Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau, the Senate dissolved into the ‘Committee of the Whole’ to individually assess each nominee based on their qualifications. Following this evaluation, the nominees were unanimously confirmed through a voice vote.
