The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Sylvester N. Nwakuche as the Controller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS).
Nwakuche had been serving in an acting capacity since his appointment by President Bola Tinubu. His confirmation followed the screening process conducted by the Senate Committee on Interior, which presented its report during a plenary session presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio. The Senate approved his appointment through a voice vote.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Correctional Service has identified Senior Correctional Assistant (SCA) Shuaibu King David as the officer who lost his life during a jailbreak at the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Koton Karfe, Kogi State. In a statement issued by Service Spokesman DCC Abubakar Umar, it was revealed that David made a heroic attempt to prevent the escape of inmates and protect the facility but was tragically killed in the process.
The statement described David’s actions as a testament to his dedication to duty and national security. It also conveyed condolences from the Acting Controller-General, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, on behalf of the Nigerian Correctional Service, to the late officer’s family, colleagues, and loved ones.
