ABUJA (Sundiata Post) – Senate has disclosed that it has considered to subject alleged lopsidedness in Police promotion to public scrutiny to know whether the promotion was lopsided or not.
It will be recalled that a police officer had, in an interview with a foreign radio station, alleged that the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, was favouring a section of the country in the promotion of police personnel.
But, in an interview, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Abu Ibrahim, however, said that the Inspector General of Police has submitted the list of the Police promotion under his watch to the committee.
“The IGP submitted the list yesterday, and we are going to meet on Tuesday in order to scrutinise it, to know whether there is lopsidedness or not,” Ibrahim said.

He said that the list of the promotion would be read in the public in order to enable Nigerians to have a critical loot of it.
“We now have facts and figures of the promotion, and we are going to make it available to the public,” he added.
In a related development, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Police, has faulted N19 billion allocation to the Police out of the total N53 billion proposal sent to the Ministry of Interior.
He lamented that the allocation is too low for any meaningful transformation to take place in the Nigeria Police.
